Picture this; me happily strolling around the streets of Florence and trying to decide between going for a glass of wine first followed by ice-cream from Gelateria Santa Trinita or whether to start off with two scoops of vanilla and melon ice-cream then head for some wine tasting later. This dilemma of mine is interrupted by the sight of an inviting Bistro and I find my feet leading me inside to savour some cheeses and sip on a glass of Chardonnay. Heavenly. Why I'm telling you all about this? Because this very bistro - Il Borro Tuscan Bistro - has now opened its doors in Malta!!
Last Wednesday I was invited to the Bistro's official launch and a glass of chilled Prosecco kept me company as I got to take in the homely surroundings. Rubbing shoulders with Salvatore Ferragamo himself, I got to enjoy some mouthwatering delicacies from Tuscany, prepared for us by the great chef Andrea Campani. We were treated to a number of tasty apetizers and snacks; I loved the cured ham and the salami with red prickly pears in particular and made a mental note to return some day before the end of year 2013 :D

Il Borro is "a concept shop halfway between restaurant, wine bar and store". A number of products used in the bistro's kitchen are also available for sale, including Il Borro extra virgin olive oil and sun-dried tomatoes (which I can guarantee make the perfect combination with some mozzarella di bufola that we also got to savour during the eve), honey and the extraordinary traditional wines of Il Borro.

If you ask me, whether it's for a lunch, a platter of cold cuts and Tuscan cheeses or a glass of Sangiovese you have to give Il Borro Tuscan Bistro a try, at least once. Other visits to the bistro will automatically follow, don't worry ;)
